Jason Miller, stage name of John Anthony Miller Jr., born April 22, 1939 in the borough of Queens in New York City and died May 13, 2001 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, was an American playwright and actor. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play for his play That Championship Season, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Father Damien Karras in the film The Exorcist (1973), which he reprised in The Exorcist: The Sequel (1990). He then turned down the lead role in Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver to star in Robert Mulligan's The Nickel Ride. He then became artistic director of the Scranton Public Theater in Pennsylvania, where That Championship Season had been performed.
