Nanette Newman studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and made her film debut in a 1945 short film. This was followed by her first feature film, A Troubling Affair by Anthony Pelissier (starring Gene Tierney and Leo Genn), released in 1953.
Notably, she appeared in nine films by Bryan Forbes (1926-2013), including The Whisperers (1967, starring Edith Evans and Eric Portman) and Sarah (1978, starring Tatum O'Neal and Christopher Plummer). She married the director in 1955, and was widowed at his death.
Her other notable films include Basil Dearden's The London Hold-Up (1960, starring Jack Hawkins and Nigel Patrick) and Oh God! Richard Attenborough's How Beautiful War Is (1969, starring Colin Farrell).
After a final feature film in 1993, the last two of her thirty (mostly British) films were shorts released in 2003 and 2006 respectively.
