Steve Shagan, born October 25, 1927, in the Brooklyn borough of New York City, and died November 30, 2015, in Los Angeles, California, was an American producer, screenwriter, and writer. He left school at the start of World War II and enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. He subsequently worked as a film technician in New York City and then at Cape Canaveral before moving to Hollywood in 1958, where he continued this work. From 1962, he worked in the publicity department at Paramount before embarking on production and screenwriting for film and television in 1965. He notably adapted Mario Puzo's novel The Sicilian for Michael Cimino, which led to the film The Sicilian. As a novelist, he is primarily known for the novelization of his major works (Save the Tiger, City of Angels, The Formula, Voyage of the Damned). He died in 2015 in Los Angeles at the age of 88.
