Tatum Beatrice O'Neal (born November 5, 1963) is an American actress best known for her film work as a child actress in the 1970s. She is the youngest to win a competitive Academy Award, at the age of 10.
Her early adolescence was marked by her relationship with Michael Jackson in the 1970s (the latter declared in the 2003 documentary Living with Michael Jackson: "The first girlfriend I really loved was Tatum O'Neal"). In 1974, at the age of 10, she won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for the film Cotton Candy. She fell into drug abuse because of her associates, notably with Cher and Melanie Griffith. For years, she lived in hell but recovered by meeting her great love[ref. [desired] tennis player John McEnroe, to whom she remained married from 1986 to 1994 and with whom she had three children: Kevin McEnroe (born May 23, 1986), Sean O'Neal (born September 23, 1987), and Emily McEnroe (born May 10, 1991). The romance did not last, and the couple divorced. She fell back into heroin use and failed relationships with, among others, Jean-Claude Van Damme and even Albert of Monaco.
Her serious addictions caused her to lose custody of her children. She tried to get back on track by undergoing drug rehabilitation. She once again had a string of brief relationships, such as with Steven Hutensky, president of Miramax in 2001, and Alec Baldwin. Her filmography suffered from this unstable private life. She has also appeared in Michael Ritchie's The Owl Team, Bryan Forbes' Sarah, Prisoners, Sex and the City, The Runaways, and She's Funny That Way. Tatum published a book in which she recounts her life, her descents into hell, and blames her father for all her ills.
In 2006, she competed in the second season of the American show Dancing with the Stars with partner Nick Kosovich.
In 2008, she was arrested for possession of cocaine and crack cocaine in New York.
In 2015, she publicly revealed her bisexuality.
