Antoine Duhamel, born July 30, 1925, in Valmondois, Seine-et-Oise (now Val-d'Oise), and died September 11, 2014, in the same city, was a French composer primarily known for his film scores. He collaborated with several major directors of the New Wave, a genre with which he remains associated among film buffs. He composed the scores for three films by Jean-Luc Godard, including Pierrot Le Fou (1965), which made him famous; he also worked with Jean-Daniel Pollet on five occasions and with François Truffaut on four occasions. His work has earned him two nominations for the César Award for Best Music Written for a Film: for Let the Party Begin by Bertrand Tavernier in 1976 and for Ridicule by Patrice Leconte in 1997. In 2002 he received a Silver Bear at the Berlinale for Laissez-passer by Bertrand Tavernier, a director with whom he also maintains a rich artistic collaboration.
